The NFT space can feel like information overload at times, so we’ve cut through the noise to deliver you a curated dose of what matters most. Your all-in-one weekly companion.

Headline News - Bitcoin Ordinals, Two Mammoth Ethereum NFT Sales and ZenAcademy’s Student IDs

Otherdeed For Otherside tops the 7-day volume charts on OpenSea (which is now an aggregator to the Seaport ecosystem). Doodles sits in second, Mutant Ape Yacht Club is in third, Pudgy Penguins is in fourth and Checks - VV Edition is in fifth.

a KID called BEAST has seen its floor move from 0.38ETH to 1.21ETH over the past week and sits 11th in overall volume. Checks have had another impressive week with over 5,850ETH in volume and the floor hitting 2.7ETH at its height. It’s currently sat at 1.69ETH.

OnChainMonkey (OCM) saw its floor price more than double to 2ETH, after the creators announced they’d duplicated each NFT using Bitcoin Ordinals. Purchasing an OCM Genesis on Ethereum now also grants you ownership of the asset on Bitcoin simultaneously.

There were two huge NFT sales this past week. One was Bored Ape Yacht Club #7090 for 800ETH and the other was CryptoPunk #5066 for 857ETH.

Bitcoin NFTs, or Bitcoin Ordinals, have certainly captured the communities attention over the past few weeks, and no more so than the past few days. There’s been numerous discussions and articles published about this emerging space, and we cover it all in more detail below.

This week ZenAcademy continued its march towards onboarding millions by opening up the community to everyone, through the launch of free Student IDs.

Talking Point - Bitcoin Ordinals

Ordinals have been taking web3 by storm, so we thought we’d provide you with a little toolkit, so you can learn, understand and participate in this emerging NFT sector. But first of all, let us explain what Ordinals are, as well as what they are not.

Digital collectibles have existed on Bitcoin since 2014, but they’ve always utilized sidechains such as Counterparty. Notable collections such as Spells Of Genesis and RarePepes exist in this ecosystem. However, the Ordinals protocol is different. The process stays entirely on the Bitcoin network and does not require a sidechain or additional token.

Each Bitcoin is broken into 100,000,000 units called satoshis (or sats). The Ordinals protocol enables users to explore, transfer and receive individual sats. It also allows for unique data, such as videos and images, to be inscribed on the sats. The process of adding assets to individual sats is called inscription. Inscriptions make it possible to put content in a Bitcoin transaction and assign it to a sat. Once completed, the inscriptions are stored in a Bitcoin transaction’s signature.

One major difference between most of the NFTs on Ethereum, and Ordinals, is that the former tends to point to data off-chain, whereas the latter is wholly on-chain. This has led Ordinals creator Rodarmor to refer to them as digital artifacts, not NFTs.

As always, DYOR. It’s a nascent space and there’s a lot of scammers on the prowl. There are currently no marketplaces for Ordinals, and plenty of those appearing on OpenSea via the Emblem Vault, are from malicious actors offering fake imitations. Be careful, and seek advice if you’re unsure.

Tip Of The Week - Claim Your ZenAcademy Student ID

ZenAcademy’s Student IDs are now open for claiming for anyone. Here’s what you need to know:

These Student IDs are the entry point into the entire ZenAcademy ecosystem. We want everyone to have one, and they are completely FREE, aside from gas.
These are Soulbound NFTs which mean that they cannot be sold or transferred out of the wallet that mints them.
The supply is unlimited which means that you do not need to rush.
They are Dynamic NFTs. This means that your mint # will reflect on the token, as well as the month you mint. Plus maybe other things later.
There is a bonus stamp on the ID for those who mint within the first 33 days.
There will be special badges to collect in the future, your PFP will be able to be showcased, and we have a lot more planned to customize your unique Student ID.
You do not need to mint this in the same wallet you hold your other ZA NFTs in. You will be able to link whatever wallet you mint in, with any wallet you hold assets in, to interact with the ID.
We're expecting getting a bit more activity in the server, and have built out the Student area a bit. We look forward to welcoming all newcomers.
These IDs will be replacing the "free member" role we have, and soon the entire server will be token-gated.
Your Student ID will be your access key to certain parts of the Discord, with future benefits to come.

The PFP continues. Unfortunately, we’re not going to hit our goal of having the PFP ready to launch in Q1. Hopefully it’ll be in Q2, although no promises. We will do our best to get it to you soon, and although we can’t be more specific, we can say it’s gonna be amazing.
