The NFT space can feel like information overload at times, so we’ve cut through the noise to deliver you a curated dose of what matters most. Your all-in-one weekly companion.
Headline News - Uniswap acquires Genie, eBay acquires KnownOrigin and Shopify adds NFT functionality
It’s more of the same in the NFT headlines this week as globally recognised brands continue their relentless pursuit of NFT integration.
Despite the notable failings of major players in the crypto landscape, such as Terra/UST, Celsius and 3AC, which are in part responsible for the recent market capitulation, alongside a negative macroeconomic forecast, there’s still a huge amount of positivity to be taken from developments in the space elsewhere.
Multinational e-commerce company eBay has just acquired KnownOrigin, one of the first and largest NFT marketplaces on Ethereum. Next up, Shopify, another multi-billion dollar e-commerce giant, has added an NFT-gated option for online retailers, enabling brands to make their shops more exclusive. And finally, Uniswap, in pursuit of their mission to unlock universal ownership and exchange, acquired Genie, a leading NFT marketplace aggregator.
NFTs are undoubtedly becoming more mainstream by the hour. All the above announcements occurred within days of each other, and signals a real belief in the utility of NFTs by leading brands.

Talking Point - A neighborhood watch for NFTs
NFT piracy is rife and showing no signs of slowing down, but the good guys are fighting back. DeviantArt, the worlds largest online art community, are one such example. They offer support for creators, helping them prevent their work from being used without their consent.
‘The Protect Protocol is a decentralized cross-chain standard utilized to safeguard creators against art theft in Web3. It is used to identify, communicate about, and respond to potentially infringing NFTs and NFT collections, as well as to verify trusted NFTs and NFT collections’.
Their creation, DeviantArt Protect, which went live in Beta mode on 16th May 2022, is akin to an online watchdog which monitors users artwork to ensure there is no copyright infringement online.
The platform provides support for creators of NFTs, digital art and prints, and is currently indexing art across 8 blockchains.
How it Works
DeviantArt Protect scans NFTs across multiple marketplaces in an attempt to identify art theft in Web3.
Their AI technology paired with human oversight identifies potential infringements of near-identical matches to users art.
The platform sends users real-time alerts with an automated DMCA takedown link so you can take immediate action.
Users simply create an account, upload their images, and an alert is sent with an automated DMCA takedown link if any copyright infringement is detected. It’s FREE to protect your first 10 images and they have indexed over 413 million NFTs to date. Over 118 million of these are on Ethereum with just under 85,000 alerts having been sent out in relation to those artworks.
To keep momentum in the NFT art space it’s imperative for creators to feel assured that their work is protected with regards to its copyright, so initiatives like this one are certainly a positive move forward for the space as a whole.

Tip Of The Week - Potential Wallet Vulnerability
This week I want to bring your attention to a wallet vulnerability discovered by Halborn Security, which affects a small segment of users across many browser-based wallets, including MetaMask.
You may be at risk if you meet ALL of the three conditions outlined below:
Your hard drive was unencrypted
You imported your Secret Recovery Phrase into a MetaMask extension on a device that is in possession of someone you do not trust, or your computer is compromised
You used the “Show Secret Recovery Phrase” checkbox to view your Secret Recovery Phrase on-screen during that import process
If you feel you may be at risk, please read the full thread by Metamask here.
You can also read a Medium article on the topic, published my Metamask, here.
